Teardrop trailer construction 9

Our schedule this weekend did not include very much time to accomplish much, so we concentrated on the little things that needed to be completed. We built and installed the face and doors for the electrical chase. We also built the shelves for the cabinets and installed missing drawer hardware , handles, and roller catches so the doors would stay closed.

We also started installing the light fixtures. When we got the wire run to them we touched the wires to a 12 volt battery from a drill and lights came on. It was amazing that these little lights flooded this small room. We were happy to know that it was enough lighting to get the job done.

Kent purchased the oven and cook top we were planning on because we wanted to make sure it all fit. It does have a couple of problems but I think we will be able to adjust to make it work. These pictures show it with the top closed and with it up. It will sit on a rolling tray so it can be pulled out for use. We were hoping that the oven could be used right in place but the heat requirements mandate it to be pulled out.
Additionally we started the wiring of the power converter. It took a little while to figure it out but it is coming now. We appreciate all those who have placed information of their own experiences on the web. Without your help it would have been harder.

Teardrop trailer construction 8

We glued and screwed the skin on the outside of the hatch. It went on pretty well and then we filled the screw holes and little cracks in the wood with bondo. When it is all sanded we will re-install it to make sure it all still fits.
We are going to cover the lid and roof with Rhino liner. It is rubbery so it will flex with the trailer as well as providing a completely waterproof roof.

This picture shows how the lid looks when we temporarily installed it to the trailer

This shows the back with the handle and tail lights temporarily
installed.

While I was working on the hatch Kent began the work on the round windows. You can see the frame he milled for the outside of the window in this picture.

We also screwed in the shelf in the sleeping compartment today. The lights fit in the little round disks on the bottom. This will be handy to put keys, wallets, and such on when retiring. The lights are swivel lights and may be installed later today.

Goodwin Mill and Cabinet, LC 2

We just completed a new table for our showroom. It is for sale but is also functional for working with customers. It currently sales for $1085.00 for the table and chairs. It comes in multiple choices of colors, but you will have about a 3 week construction schedule for tables other than this one on the floor. The table and stools are available un-finished also. If you are interested in doing your own distressing we have a video available to show you how.

Teardrop trailer construction 7

We did get a little time this weekend to work on a few things. Kent continued to work on the side doors. This view shows the trim painted black and inserted in the opening. He also has the frame for the other side made and fit into the opening. As you can see he has cut the opening for the round window. Kent is a real craftsman and has done a great job with the doors and paneling.
While Kent was working on the doors I started on the hatch door. It is a challenge to make but I think it is starting to turn out OK. I put the top and bottom rails together and then screwed the frame where I wanted it. I then installed the remaining spars and corner blocks to make it ridged. You can see that I framed the openings for the tail lights also.

Here is another view of the hatch door raised up. When I was ready to lift it I removed the screws that held it in place and it remained in it's original shape and appears to be working pretty well. We will be installing the skin on the outside shortly and running wires to the lights.

Teardrop trailer construction 6

We had a little time to work on the teardrop trailer tonight. The coolest thing was the installation of the doors on the cabinets in the sleeping compartment. The pictures really don't do it justice as they really look cool. It really gives the cabin a look of nearing completion until you look at the outside.

We also cut the curved components to build the trunk lid over the kitchen. We will be installing it this weekend if we have the time to work on it. You might notice that the cherry blocks in the door are starting to darken. We are hoping that they match the contrast of the counter eventually.

Kent installed the other wall of paneling while I was in Provo last week and built the door frame. The frame will be black to match the cabinets. It is really neat how the paneling is matching the wall configuration. He has the round window marked so it will most likely be cut out this weekend. We also installed the ceiling paneling. It is a shiplap pattern. We have had this material in our warehouse for about four years and couldn't sell it, so we sanded it up and finished it to match. Again the picture doesn't do it justice as it is really beautiful.
